In this video, we'll explore the CMS Auto-Sync Desktop App. If you're not on a Server Plan and want to keep your Webflow and Shopify stores perfectly in sync, this free desktop app is the ideal tool. It automates the synchronization process, making it far more efficient than manual methods.
Please note:
- The app only syncs your projects while it's running on your computer.
- For fully automated synchronization, consider our Server Plan.
The main reason to use this app is to reduce the workload of maintaining and keeping your data on Shopify in sync with your Webflow data. Without this application, you would have to manually export and re-import data to keep the two environments synchronized. With this app, you no longer have to do that. You can use Shopify as your central location to update product data, collections, vendors, metafields, and more. The app will automatically sync your changes from Shopify to Webflow, saving you countless hours.
Let's install the app, go through the general workflow, and then I'll show you how to use the app to sync metafield data, which is really cool and useful.
First, download the app from the tools section. You'll find it called 'Auto-Sync App.' Download it for Mac or PC, install it, and open it.
Enter your Smootify username and password. Choose the project you want to connect. The app will ask you to link your collections. Map your CMS collections, product collection, and vendors.
Click 'Enable Auto-Sync' or use the 'Sync' button to sync immediate changes.
Now, let's see how the sync works. We'll make some changes to Shopify data and add a custom metafield.
Go to your products and create a custom field, just like you would in Webflow. Call it 'My Custom Field.' Copy the name. Save the field, save the collection, and publish it.
Next, create the custom metafield. You can do this in your workflow or in the settings. Add a definition, paste the name you copied, and ensure the namespace is 'custom.' Choose a single-line text for the data type, make sure storefront access is ticked, and save it.
Now, go to your product, make some changes, and add a value to the custom metafield. Save it.
To sync the new data, open the desktop sinker, go back to the collection settings, and walk through the process again. You'll see the new field. Connect it, confirm collections and vendors, and force a sync.
Once synced, go to Webflow, refresh the page, and check your product. You'll see the title updated and the custom field value displayed.
That's pretty much it! The app will save you a lot of time and make your life easier by keeping your Shopify and Webflow data synchronized.
